The Newsroom recaps week three of the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
Real Madrid cruise past AS Roma
Real Madrid have made the quarter-finals of the Champions League after a 4-0 aggregate win over AS Roma. Leading the tie 2-0 from the first-leg, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 40th goal of the season to take the lead before James Rodríguez scored a second just four minutes later. Roma’s Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah were guilty of wasted chances, both missing opportunities after being through on goal. With Zinedine Zidane’s men trailing La Liga leaders Barcelona by 12 points and also having been eliminated from the Copa Del Rey, the Champions League remains the only realistic chance of silverware for Real Madrid this season.
Chelsea eliminated by PSG again
Chelsea have been knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain for the second consecutive year after a 4-2 win for the French side. After winning 2-1 in the first-leg, PSG continued to dominate the fixture. Zlatan Ibrahimovic crossed for Adrien Rabiot to score giving the away side a 3-1 lead, before Chelsea regrouped and pulled one back courtesy of Diego Costa. Chelsea forwards Willian and Eden Hazard missed vital opportunities in the second half before Ibrahimovic made the most of an Ángel Di María cross to slot home Paris Saint-Germain’s fourth aggregate goal. – Anthony Johnston
