A “how to” make the best of your Oscar’s experience within the comfort of your own home.
There’s glitz, there’s glam, there’s tears, there’s tantrums. Welcome to Hollywood’s award season. With what is arguably the film industry’s night of nights- the Oscars, right around the corner, Hollywood is gearing up for some festivities, food and fun to toast its peers and we have a handy guide on how to host an Oscars party, that will make you the toast of yours.
What to wear
You’re hosting, so you can decide what the theme should be. Black tie, casual or even pyjama themed. You’re in your domain, and without the fear of being splashed across the tabloids as “worst dressed at the Oscars” you and your friends can do whatever you please, so go for whatever feels best. But when you ladies get to makeup, we have some tips that will make you and your friends look red carpet ready, all whilst staying within the comfort of your own home.
Food and drink
As the red carpet rolls out and the celebrities roll in, you’re going to want to impress your friends with a bevy of delightful treats, both of the solid type and the liquid variety. Whilst you may not have the estimated $30,000 food budget your Hollywood party counterparts have, you can still tantalise the taste buds whilst keeping the expenditure low. Chances are you will want to steer clear of a heavy dinner as you will still want to drink, socialise and star spot on the TV without the hindrance of a food baby. Jahnavi Clark, a chef for Govinda Valley has these suggestions to make your party food the talk of the town. “Keep it light, its still summer so anything too oily will weigh you down. Anything with mint, basil or lemon are delicious, in season and great for the digestion”.
A thank you for coming, a show of gratitude for the years hard work in a field that has entertained and mesmerised the public for yet another year… Well that’s what the Oscars goodie bags are for. Thankfully, since you are more likely than not removed from the film industry, your thank you bag is probably more based on “thanks for turning up and eating all my food, drinking all my alcohol and judging celebrity’s clothes harder than Joan Rivers hits the botox”. As a plus, that means your goodie bags wont have to contain the restalyne, diamonds and vouchers to weight loss retreats that the Oscars bags are rumoured to contain. You can throw in whatever you want. And yes it can be entirely inappropriate and useless. If you want your party to be remembered and be thought of as a host with the most, you can always hand-make the bag your goodies go in.
With all the components of a great at home Oscars’ viewing sorted, all that’s left for you to do is sit back and enjoy the show.
