Despite the disappointment, Longmire said “there is some good to come out of it.”
The Swans coach fronted the media earlier today after an intense training session with the team. The big question on everyone’s mind was what he thought about the living allowance being cut.
“It’s disappointing that it’s been taken away from the entire list,” he said.
The Cost of Living Allowance has been in place for over 20 years, not without contention, to compensate for the Swans players who live in the expensive economy of Sydney.
“It’s been acknowledged by the AFL that there is an expense associated with living in Sydney that’s yet to be worked out,” he said. It would, however, “take some time” to perfect the formula.
Sydney Swans million dollar boy Buddy Franklin made his debut for the team in the NAB Challenge last week, the Swans losing out to the West Coast.
Despite the loss, Longmire is confident his team can get the ball rolling when the AFL season starts next week.
“We’re looking forward to having our last hit-out before the season starts next week,” he said.
