A shudder of clowns is creating fear among Sydneysiders, threatening to “purge” Campbelltown tonight. “Creepy clowns” have been making headlines throughout the US since August, and more recently New Zealand, with reports regarding violent behaviour and attempted child abductions.
US police have made several arrests and there has even been one clown-related incident in which a boy dressed as a clown was stabbed to death.
The Australian Clown Purge – Aint Clownin group took to Facebook yesterday to announce their “tour in Australia” and to inform the public, “THIS IS NOT A JOKE”.
People have swamped the Facebook page with both positive and negative comments, threatening to bash or run over clowns or inviting them to their neighbourhoods.
The group has indicated on social media that they have some kind of “attack” planned for Halloween. An event has been created on Facebook called “Clowns coming to Australia” for October 31, 2016.
The event description reads: “We’ll be landing in Australia on October 30th. Ready for Halloween attacks this year?? Keep your kids safe, we won’t hurt you if you don’t hurt us.”
This follows a threatening post stating that their first appearance will be in Sydney’s south-west later this evening.
Concerned Campbelltown residents have taken to Facebook warning people to avoid clowns or dressing as a clown “for your own safety”.
The Newsroom has attempted to contact the Facebook group for comment. The clowns have not responded.
