The Broncos seized the first Friday night victory of 2014 with support from an NSW crowd.
The men in maroon had the first half under control, keeping the majority of possession in their eager hands. A try from young centre Dale Copley followed by a brilliant dash for the line from Daniel Vidot solidified the Broncos’ good form in the early part of the game.
However, the Bulldogs weren’t going to go down without a fight, shifting the momentum on their side later in the game with two tries of their own, although the Broncos snuck ahead by two points after a penalty goal from halfback Ben Hunt. Canterbury controlled the ball for most of the second half but were turned back every time by the Broncos’ fort-like defence.
A try in the 74th minute from Broncos winger Lachlan Maranta sealed the Bulldogs’ fate, earning the Broncos their first victory of 2014 with a final scoreline of 18-12.
Despite the match being held in enemy territory there was no shortage of Broncos fans on hand at ANZ Stadium. The gold-and-maroon adorned fans chanted a loud welcome to new Bronco, Ben Barba.
