The 2012 Dally M medal-winner Ben Barba is back and ready to bite the Rabbitohs.
The Good Friday clash against in-form South Sydney will be Barba’s first match for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs since CEO Todd Greenberg suspended him before the 2013 season even started.
The star fullback told news.com.au he was looking forward to getting the footy buzz back again. “It’s been a difficult period but it’s felt terrific to be back around my mates and back training,” he said.
Team mates were full of praise, saying Barba is in great shape and in good spirits after missing the first three rounds. Captain Michael Ennis said Barba would take the field at 100 per cent: “His head is where it needs to be …”
Barba’s return is likely to boost attendance; ANZ stadium expects at least 40,000 fans to attend.
Steven Turner who recently retired from the game but still works closely within the Bulldogs media team told The Australian “For Bulldogs kids, their favourite player is Ben Barba”, and that “rugby league fans want to see him play because he was sensational last year”. – Blake Moretti
