Obama seeks lessened geographic limitations
US President Barack Obama has sought authorisation to increase the military presence to combat ISIS, arguing the militants may pose a threat to the country. The draft resolution, sent to congress on Wednesday, would see military force authorised against terrorists for three years. It is the first time the bill has been revisited since 9/11.
Three Muslim students killed
Three American students gunned down on Tuesday over an apparent argument near the university campus in North Carolina. Police said the shooting may have been fuelled by an on-going dispute over parking, but are investigating further. “We understand the concerns about the possibility that this was hate-motivated,” said chief Chris Blue of the Chapel Hill Police Department. The gunman, Craig Stephen Hicks, was taken into custody on three counts of first degree murder after turning himself in after the incident.
American hostage may have been IS bride
Speculations have emerged that American aid worker and ISIS hostage, Kayla Mueller, was paired with an ISIS fighter before she was murdered. US intelligence and government officials have said Mueller, who was confirmed dead earlier this week, may have been paired with a male during her time in captivity. It is unclear whether the 26-year-old was coerced, sold or forced into the alleged coupling. She was captured in northern Syria in 2013.
