The Newsroom attended the Save our Wildlife rally in Sydney’s Martin Place this week, where hundreds of environmentalists protested against proposed land-clearing laws.
The Baird Government proposal – to repeal the Native Vegetation Act and replace it with the Biodiversity Conservation Act – would allow farmers to carry out large-scale land clearing and put threatened species at risk, according to protesters.
NSW Opposition Leader Luke Foley was among the speakers to address the crowd opposite State Parliament. He said the Labor Party would oppose the changes when they came before Parliament at the end of the year. – Presented by CJ Cowen, produced by Lauren Croft.
