Police have shot dead a man and a woman suspected of being involved in this morning’s mass shooting in San Bernadino, California.
The two killed in a shootout were carrying “assault-style weapons” and dressed in “military-style clothing” police said. One officer was wounded in the confrontation, and is in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A shelter-in-place order has been lifted for the neighbourhood surrounding the site of the shooting at the Inland Regional Centre, where at least 14 were killed and 17 more wounded. A suspicious device found in the building was believed to be an explosive.
Police report that a third suspect is in custody and one may still be at large. No motive has yet been established for the attack, but authorities are not ruling out terrorism. Details of the initial shooting remain confused but there have been suggestions that it came about when a man was evicted from a Christmas party then returned with others carrying weapons.
FBI: terrorism is a possibility "but we don't know that yet."
