Partners Jason Kenny & Laura Trott have claimed gold medals at the Velodrome to take Great Britain’s tally to 50, their highest haul ever.
Men’s Keirin
It was a race that saw two false starts but that didn’t phase Kenny as he took home his third gold medal of the Rio Olympics. Kenny now joins the legendary Sir Chris Hoy as one of Great Britain’s most successful Olympians with his sixth gold medal. Matthijs Buchli from the Netherlands claimed Silver while Azizulhasni Awang from Malaysia came away with bronze.
It was a race that Australian Matt Glaetzer would like to forget after he crashed on the first turn and part of his pedal fell off. This meant that he had to compete in the 7-12th place race and finished in 10th.
Women’s Omnium
Trott claimed her second gold medal with an impressive win at the Women’s Omnium. She was heads above the rest after she finished with 230 points. Trott now holds four gold medals, the only British woman to do so.
She blitzed the individual pursuit with a time of 3:25.05, way ahead of Sarah Hammer of the USA, who finished with a time of 3:26.98. Overall, Hammer finished with the silver medal while Jolien D’hoore from Belgium took home the bronze. – Jesse Mullens
