The New York Jets defeated the Dallas Cowboys 19-16 in Texas, knocking them out of playoff contention.
At half-time Dallas led by just one point (10-9) with quarterback Kellen Moore replacing Matt Cassell to add some spark. Moore completed 15 passes and threw a touchdown for Dez Bryant but it wasn’t enough.
Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick led with 26 completions for 299 yards throwing a 43-yard touchdown for Kenbrell Thompkins to put the Jets in a comfortable lead. Randy Bullock sealed the win for the Jets with a 40-yard field goal 36 seconds from the close.
Next week the Jets take on the New England Patriots while the Cowboys will battle the Buffalo Bills.
Redskins too good for the Bills
The Washington Redskins defeated the Buffalo Bills 35-25 in Maryland, locking the Bills out of the play-offs for a 16th straight year. At half-time the Redskins were in front by 21 points to nothing; quarterback Kirk Cousins threw four touchdowns and completed 22 out of 28 passes for 319 yards. The Bills hit back but couldn’t sustain the onslaught and the Redskins held on for victory. Next week the Redskins face the Philadelphia Eagles.
Carolina survive the Giants
The Carolina Panthers earned a 14th consecutive win by pipping the New York Giants 38-35 in New Jersey. Until half-time the Panthers were all over the Giants, 21-7. Cam Newton was the star of the show for the Panthers once again steering the team throwing five touchdowns for 340 yards while Giants quarterback Eli Manning equally had a great game throwing four touchdowns for 245 yards. The Panthers increased their lead to 35-14 by the end of the third, but then the Giants fought back miraculously, levelling with only a minute remaining. With just 10 seconds remaining, Graham Gano slotted a field goal. Carolina will face the Falcons next week; the Giants take on the Minnesota Vikings. – Jesse Mullens
