Joshua Homann, 38, was refused bail today after being charged with the murder of his heavily pregnant partner in Sydney’s west.
Mother-of-four Kirralee Paepaerei, 37, was found in bedroom by her 15-year-old son, who called police shortly after midnight on Tuesday. She died of severe wounds to her face and chest.
Homann will not be charged for the death of her unborn baby because current law states that a baby must be born before it is legally a person.
“Just got the all-clear from the Drs (sic) today and were proud to say that we’re having a healthy baby GIRL!!!!! woo hoo I’m apparently getting my PINK baby,” Ms Paepaerei posted on Facebook.
In 2009, there was a push to have an unborn baby declared a legal person under the proposed Zoe’s law. The proposal was raised after Brodie Donegan’s unborn daughter, Zoe, was killed when a drunk driver hit her car, killing Zoe just months before she was born. “Zoe’s Law” was overlooked because it would put restrictions on abortion laws. – Rosaline Khami
