Kings Cross police have arrested a man in connection with the torching of a strip club early today after a dispute with a stripper.
Police and firefighters were called to the Love Machine on Darlinghurst Road at 3:15am. The blaze damaged two rooms on the third floor before it was extinguished. Five people escaped the club without injury; several were evacuated from a nearby residential unit.
A 25-year-old is being questioned at Kings Cross Police Station over the fire and the alleged assault of a female employee before the fire started.
The woman said she was strangled, punched and kicked by a patron who yelled that he would set the place alight. “I fought for my life for seven minutes,” she told Macquarie Radio earlier this morning.
Motorists are advised that Darlinghurst Road between Roslyn Street and Bayswater Road has been closed as well as Kellett Street while police investigate.
