Trump’s win dominates the music world, plus System of a Down album news … here’s the latest in music.
The music world reacts to Trump’s victory
So Donald Trump will be the next President of the United States and it seems the decision has divided musicians across the planet. Some are happy but most are not, and many took to Twitter to voice their opinion.
I didn’t think my country could be this fucking stupid or hateful.
I’m disgusted.

Killer Mike, from rap duo Run The Jewels, weighed in on how it went down.
But not all thought Trump’s win was a bad thing, with rapper Azealia Banks taking to Instagram to offer her congratulations.
Banks used Facebook to attack Hillary Clinton and her supporters, particularly Beyonce and Jay-Z.
Banks is no stranger to controversy. Earlier this year, she called for US Politician Sarah Palin to be gang-raped, although she later apologised for the comments.
In some unexpected music news, “pharma bro” aka Martin Shkreli, the guy who bought the AIDS treatment drug and then hiked the price up by more than 5000 per cent, tweeted that if Trump won, he’d release his entire music collection.
For some context, earlier this year, it was revealed that he was the one who purchased the only copy of the latest Wu-Tang Album, Once Upon A Time In Shaolin, for $2 million. He then proceeded to rub it in all our faces.
If Trump wins, my entire unreleased music collection, including unheard Nirvana, Beatles, and of course, Wu-Tang, comes out, for free.
— Martin Shkreli (@MartinShkreli) 27 October 2016
He then tweeted this, on Wednesday arvo, once Trump was declared the President.
Ok so I have unreleased wu, Beatles, 2pac, nirvana, radiohead, Hendrix, brand new, smiths, Elliot smith, Ramones… What do you want first?

Later that night he kept his word, sort of, streaming himself listening to two tracks from Once Upon A Time In Shaolin.
After this week’s shock election #Kanye2020 now doesn’t seem so impossible…
Hip hop news
While that Wu-Tang record might never be in our hands, we can still have a new album, from A Tribe Called Quest. The sixth, and final album, from legendary jazz rap band, titled We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service is out today.
Childish Gambino, aka Donald Glover, star of television shows Community, and Atlanta, tweeted this image yesterday:

Today, Zane Lowe’s iTunes show Beats 1 premiered the new track,
Rap duo Run The Jewels released another track. This time, in response to the election result, titled 2100.
The two wrote a little piece to accompany the track, “For our friends. For our family. For everyone who is hurting or scared right now. Here is a song we wrote months ago. We weren’t [sic] planning on releasing it yet but…well it feels right, now.”
The heavy stuff
There is a fairly good chance that System of a Down will release a new album! Speaking exclusively with UK hard rock magazine Kerrang, drummer John Dolmayan said the band had been toiling away in the studio for the last six months. Confirming that there were 15 new songs written in this time, though he noted that he wanted the rest of the band “on board and feeling good about it”. Back in September, band member Shavo Odadjian posted to his Instagram a few teasing photos of the band in the studio. If all this comes true, this will be System’s first album since 2005’s Mezmerize/Hypnotize.
System of a Down are headlining next year’s Download music festival in the UK.
The world’s only “Nedal” band, Ned Flanders tribute band, Okilly Dokilly released their debut music video White Wine Spritzer early this week. Their debut album Howdilly Doodily is out today.
This band is the greatest thing to happen to music this year! Period!
Lorde posts album update
Kiwi pop megastar Lorde, who blew up in 2013 with her debut Pure Heroine, posted an update to mark her 20th birthday. In the post, she discusses her journey up to this point and what she’s been up to in recent months.
She’s been working on this album for quite some time. So it’s going to be really great to see what kind of direction she takes us with the follow-up.
The xx share new song
British indie pop-rockers, The xx released a new track last night. On Hold is the first single from the trio’s third album. Earlier in the week, the band released a super short teaser.
The new album, I See You will be out January 13.
Producer Jaime Smith (aka Jamie xx) released a fantastic solo electronic record last year, In Colour, which received widespread praise.
