In the final game of the year, England humbled the Wallabies 37-21 this morning in chilly Twickenham.
The Wallabies came out of the blocks in the first half with Sefa Naivalu scoring a five-pointer early. England hit back with a try from Joseph Jones after he ran after a beautifully weighted kick from Dylan Farrell. Bernard Foley hit three penalty goals to give the Wallabies a lead going into half-time at 16-13.
In the second half, it was disappointing to say the least for the Wallabies. England provided a flurry of tries and blew the Wallabies off the park. To kick it off for England, Marland Yarde scored first in the 46th minute followed by Ben Young scoring then Jones going over for his second try. The Wallabies coach Michael Chieka just had to sit in his box and watch his players drop the ball and fail to execute on opportunities in front of them. On the other hand, Eddie Jones savoured the moment and couldn’t keep the smile off his face. Sekope Kepu went over for the Australians but from then it was one-way traffic.
Farrell’s boot proved to be the momentous difference but errors and horrible options hurt the Wallabies badly.
Jones has changed England in a big way. This year they have beaten the Wallabies four times to nothing and better yet, they have secured a 14-game consecutive win streak. This means England are now four wins away from tying with the 18-game win streak record held by the All Blacks. The Wallabies, however, this year, have lost nine times in what was a very tough year for Australian rugby as a whole. – Jesse Mullens
