Joint Dally M player of the year winner Johnathan Thurston ruled out of rugby league Four Nations.
Cowboys five-eighth and Queensland play maker Johnathan Thurston has been forced to pull out of Australia’s train-on squad for the upcoming end of year Four Nations tournament.
Thurston visited doctors yesterday and was advised due to a shoulder injury he would not be able to fulfil his commitments to the Kangaroos side, however his injury does not need surgery at this stage.
“It was a really difficult decision to have to make but in the end, the doctor really took it out of my hands when I saw him yesterday,” Thurston said.
“You never want to miss playing rep footy, and I’m very proud of my record in that area, but this time there’s no other option. I’d like to wish the Kangaroos all the best for the Four Nations,” he said.
This comes as a further blow to the Kangaroos as Cowboys team mate Matt Scott was also forced to miss the Four Nations with a shoulder injury. With Thurston unable to compete in this year’s Four Nations we will have to wait to see who coach Tim Sheens calls up to replace him. – David Telefoni
