Australian basketball player Ben Simmons has become the second ever Australian to be the number one pick at the NBA Draft.
The 19-year-old, who stands at six foot ten and weighs 111 kilograms, was a standout in the College season for Louisiana State University (LSU), averaging 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.
The Melbourne born forward lead LSU in their most crucial statistics, earning him the SEC Freshman of the Year and Consensus All-American first team for the 2016 season.
“I’m happy the Sixers chose me,” Simmons said to ESPN. “It’s a great city, and I’m looking forward to getting to Philly.”
Simmons has been chosen to provide some much needed impact at Philadelphia after a disappointing past two seasons, with a record of 28 wins to 136 losses. – Jarvis Small
