The Sequel that’s better than the original.
What’s it all about?
Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are back at again, except this time they’re going to college. This isn’t like some American Pie wannabe-flick. These two have the ability to be hilarious; with Jonah being co-writer, both actors had the chance to have a little fun.
The fact that this sequel was meant to be “exactly the same” as last time reiterates that they aren’t afraid to make fun of themselves or play on the sequel-aspect to the movie. The roles are swapped this time and Jenko (Channing) is seen in his natural habitat. With his ripped abs, bulging biceps and a body that seems to be made for college football, it isn’t surprising that he could get in with the cool frat house. While Jenko goes undercover in the apparent dealer’s circle of friends, Schmidt (Jonah) is left to fend by himself. It’s really upsetting when the two kind-of break up.
The good bits
I felt like I was watching a scene from The Vow except Rachel McAdams is Jonah Hill. I could just imagine the millions of takes they had to do to get this break up scene just right, without the two actors falling into a fit of laughter. Jonah does a really good job of being like a female in the way that he cares more about the relationship, which we are hilariously reminded of on his numerous “walks of shame”. With his shoes in his hands, he struts his stuff back to his room in the early hours of the morning.
My favourite part is when the two visit cell mates Mr Walters (who gets his manhood shot off) and Eric, from the first movie, where, according to Mr Walters, they have become much “closer”. I also loved when Jenko realises that a certain someone’s daughter has slept with Shmidt, and he immediately loses his mind.
I could rattle of for hours about the best parts of the movie but it would be quicker for you see it for yourself. Don’t miss out on this awesome sequel, which doesn’t usually happen.
The bad bits
I can’t think of anything bad about the movie, I absolutely loved it. I just hope if they do make a third movie that it is as enjoyable as the first two!
P.S., ladies, Channing did most of his stunts, I’ll just leave you with that.
10/10 – Alana Scott
